Our Ideal Candidate (Who we are looking for)
Our ideal candidate is a team player with a strong piloting background, comprehensive familiarity of the LA Basin, and is someone who adapts to work in a fast paced, highly collaborative environment. Our ideal candidate embraces the importance of safety, teamwork, communication, and contribution to the day to day interests of the work environment. Excellent judgment, observation skills, an eye for details, and a knack for picking up on environmental and unspoken queues is essential. Our ideal candidate can assimilate multiple streams of information quickly, prioritizing and making decisions based on the constant stream of information that is ever-present in an ENG environment.
If you’re the type of person who likes the unpredictable within a predictable schedule, this could be a good fit for you. If you’re positively inclined to receive feedback, debrief each assignment, and continuously refine your ENG-related piloting skills with feedback and experience, this is an excellent opportunity.
Responsibilities (What you will be doing)
This position works in a “live” environment. You’ll be stationed at our Los Angeles based hangar working with a photographer/reporter who listens for breaking news on police/fire scanners.
You are responsible for pre-flight inspection of your assigned helicopter, inspecting and recording appropriate logs, reporting any concerns or discrepancies promptly to the PIC. You ensure you are “ready” for flight at a moment's notice without safety or mechanical concerns.
At the onset of breaking news, you will be dispatched into a helicopter, reporting to the scene of the news. You will attune to your on-board photographer/reporter who feeds you bits of information about your destination and news desk requests.
You are responsible for trip and route planning, reporting to the incident scene as quickly as possible, without delay. This planning happens quickly and suddenly, as you’re dispatched with a moment’s notice to the scene of breaking news.
You’ll be responsible for all air traffic communications and observing airspace regulations while simultaneously communicating with neighboring air traffic, and your photographer/reporter.
This position is responsible for using multiple pieces of equipment for air traffic communication, aerial navigation, and safe flight.
This position is responsible for the safety of all passengers and the interest of the Company’s assets by keeping the aircraft and others free from damage.
This position requires that you work with your photographer/reporter to establish ideal aerial views (in a safe manner) so that you can frame incident scenes with focus, offering the most competitive coverage available to our media partners.
This position ensures that aircraft is “dispatch ready” upon exiting the aircraft and performs a variety of other duties as assigned.
This position entails routine paperwork and record keeping.
